Leadership Training Seminar at Cookstown Free Presbyterian Church
This year the biennial leadership training seminar was held in Cookstown FPC. About 30 people travelling from all over Northern Ireland were in attendance. The Cookstown folk went out of their way to make us feel welcome, and there was a good supply of tea and tray bakes available throughout the day.
We had three teaching sessions in the morning, each lasting just under an hour. The topics covered were: ‘The glorious God we present’ (Rev Brown), ‘Distinctives of a FPC youth fellowship’ (Rev Lecky), and ‘The privilege and responsibility of leadership’ (Rev McIntyre). After lunch, Rev Mercer gave two more sessions on: ‘Counselling for stress, anxiety and depression’, and ‘Dealing with same sex and racism issues’.
The lectures not only brought out specific Bible verses on each topic, but gave practical advice and tips for everyday situations.
The day finished off with a time of prayer together, and ministers were at hand afterwards for anyone who had questions. The seminar was a great opportunity to learn more about the Bible, but also to meet with other Christians with similar interests.
